CLASS A
The open motorcycle license
What are you allowed to ride?
Motorcycles (also with sidecar) with an engine capacity of more than 50 cm³ or with a maximum speed of more than 45 km/h as determined by the type of construction.
Minimum age: 24 years (for direct entry), 20 years (with at least 2 years previous possession of category A2 or upgrade from A2 to A)
Three-wheeled motor vehicles with an output of more than 15 kW and three-wheeled motor vehicles with symmetrically arranged wheels and a cubic capacity of more than 50 cm³ with combustion engines or a maximum design speed of more than 45 km/h and an output of more than 15 kW.
Minimum age: 21 years for trikes (key number 80)
Included classes: A2, A1 and AM
Theoretical training:
Without prior possession:
12 x 90 min. basic material, 4 x 90 min. class-specific lessons
With previous ownership:
6 x 90 min. basic material, 4 x 90 min. class-specific lessons
Attention when upgrading to A!!!
When upgrading from class A2 to A, no theoretical training and theoretical examination is required after 2 years.
Practical training:
Practice drives: as required
Prescribed special trips:
Without previous possession:
At least: 5 x 45 min. overland, 4 x 45 min. highway and 3 x 45 min. lighting.
With previous possession of A1 or A2 (within 2 years):
At least: 3 x 45 minutes overland, 2 x 45 minutes highway and 1 x 45 minutes lighting.
Attention when upgrading to A!!!
When upgrading from category A2 to A after 2 years, no special trips are required, but a practical test must be taken.
Theoretical test:
- 30 questions for first-time acquisition
- max. 10 demerit points
- (failed with 10 FP if 2 x 5 FP)
- 20 questions for extension (max. 6 demerit points)
Practical examination:
- 70 minutes examination time
- Driving preparation before starting the test drive
- Driving in and out of town
- possibly highway
- 3 of 5 basic driving tasks
Theoretical test / practical test:
The theory test can be taken 3 months and the practical test 4 weeks before reaching the minimum age.
